MuseSusan craft groupie's Jasper Fforde

From MuseSusan:
I knitted a stuffed dodo bird for Jasper Fforde, my favorite author.

Last year when his most recent book, First Among Sequels, came out, I realized I could make it to his talk and book-signing in New York City, so I decided I would knit him something.

In the series main character Thursday Next has a pet dodo named Pickwick that she cloned using an early version of the dodo home cloning kit (before they had sequenced the wings). In the latest book, Pickwick has lost most of her feathers in a fight with the neighbor’s cat, and throughout the book Thursday spends her down time knitting a dodo sweater in blue and white (and possibly a nice black, sparkly off-the-shoulder one for parties). So I decided to knit Jasper a stuffed Pickwick, from a pattern I made up as I went along.

Since I got the idea about a week before the signing, I just barely finished the dodo sweater at the bookstore before the talk started (talk about last minute!) and gave it to Jasper when he signed my book. He was delighted (although he did ask about the black off-the-shoulder one).
